Encrypted SSL/TLS connection
Encrypted vs. unencrypted connections
The guides for setting up various email programs contain instructions for configuring the email address for SSL/TLS encryption or without a secure connection.
What is the difference?
Firstly, the encryption applies to the connection between your email program and Hoststar's email server and not to the encryption of the actual emails.
In the case of an SSL/TLS-encrypted connection, data – including your email login details – is encrypted when it is sent between your email program and the Hoststar server.
In the case of an unencrypted connection without SSL/TLS, the data as well as email login details are also unencrypted when sent, i.e. in plain text.
For security reasons, we recommend using encrypted connections if it does not cause any problems for your network.
Certificate warning. What should I do?
If you want to use an SSL/TLS-encrypted connection, enter lx#.hoststar.hosting for the both the incoming and outgoing mail servers. (The first letter of the server name is a small L like Linux. Replace # with the effective server number of your hosting.).
